Overview: The Beaver Point Community Hall Reading is a literary gathering held on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, featuring writers Robert Michael Pyle and James Dott alongside contributors to the Cascadian Zen Anthology. The event combines readings, community gathering, and a shared potluck meal within the distinctive setting of Beaver Point Community Hall.
The project required a cohesive promotional system adaptable across print and digital platforms while conveying the atmosphere of place, community, and regional literary culture central to the event.
Design Approach: The visual identity centers on immersive environmental photography of Beaver Point Community Hall, using atmosphere, lighting, and landscape to evoke the communal and regional character of the event. Rather than treating the venue as simple documentation, the campaign positions the hall itself as a central visual presence—recognizable to local audiences while reinforcing themes of gathering, place, and literary community.
Typography combines bold, highly legible event information with more delicate editorial treatments used for supporting contributor text. Warm cream tones and muted blue-greys were selected to harmonize with the evening lighting and forest setting while maintaining strong readability across print and digital formats.
The campaign was developed as a flexible cross-platform system, with layouts adapted specifically for poster, web banner, social media, and web applications rather than mechanically resized between formats. This allowed each piece to maintain clarity, hierarchy, and visual impact while preserving a consistent atmospheric identity throughout the campaign.
